Bukidnon State University (BukSU) faculty member Dr. Elle Christine D. Melendez received the Best Paper Award and was named Best Oral Presenter at the 2025 National Arts and Sciences Research Congress (NARESCON) held on February 6-7, 2025, organized by Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC).
Dr. Melendez participated virtually, presenting her study titled “Nativization Strategies in Bukidnon English Literature: A Matrix Frame and Kachruvian Analysis of Philippine English.” The research, which focused on linguistic and cultural influences in Bukidnon English literature, was recognized under the Language and Literature Studies track.
“Previous studies on Philippine English (PE) grammar often overlook the integration of L1 words in English texts, despite its significance. Understanding this aspect helps establish the grammar of L1 integration in PE,” she said.
She also highlighted how this recognition aligned with BukSU’s research goals, stating, “This study supports BukSU’s mission to preserve local culture through literature. The recognition from NARESCON further strengthens the university’s role in promoting local literature and its contribution to Philippine English studies,” she added.
NARESCON 2025 was participated in by researchers, scholars, and educators from various institutions to discuss and showcase innovative studies in different fields of arts and sciences. (Ms. Jessabell Q. Cabada/Head, Research Services Management Staff)
