The Graduate Studies of Bukidnon State University held an orientation on Open Distance and E-Learning (ODeL) on July 29, 2024, via a virtual platform with insights from the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) and the Commission on Higher Education Office X (CHEDRO – X).
“This collaboration marks a meaningful step in making BukSU’s advanced education accessible to more graduate students. With the continuous advancement of technology, BukSU is committed to providing innovative learning experiences that equip students with the skills and knowledge needed in the industry,” the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs said.
Dr. Myra Collado Almodiel, UP Open University Director for Office of Public Affairs provided an orientation on the ODeL and the role of technology.
“ODeL expands the terms ‘open and distance learning’ to include the use of e-learning or online learning methodologies to enable multiple forms of interaction and dialogue that can bridge the distance between teachers and learners and provide access to a vast array of interactive and multimedia learning resources that can be used to design learning environments for learners in divers circumstances,” said Almodiel.
Dr. Salome L. Escalona, BukSU Graduate Studies Director, discussed further the scope, coverage, and other related provisions of its proposed policies and guidelines for ODeL for Bukidnon State University.
The last part of the orientation provided an avenue for BukSU to understand the granting of government authority to offer programs via ODeL by Dr. Arlilta Amapola B. Minguez, Chief Education Program Supervisor of CHEDRO X.
Dr. Cecille Marie T. Improgo, BuksU Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning Director, emphasized the next steps of BukSU after the orientation.
“We will definitely be having a visit/benchmark to the UPOU in the future, as well as to other institutions to make ODeL realize in BukSU,” she said. (BukSU-Information Unit)
