The College of Nursing (CON) of Bukidnon State University (BukSU) bested other nursing schools in the province in the Sports Event during the Philippine Nursing Student Association-Bukidnon Chapter (PNSA) Days, held at Central Mindanao University in Maramag, Bukidnon, on February 21–22, 2024.
The PNSA Days is an annual event that celebrates camaraderie and healthy competition among nursing students in the province. The Sports Event includes basketball, volleyball, swimming, table tennis, lawn tennis, chess, and electronic games.
After a hiatus since 2020 due to the challenges posed by COVID-19, the PNSA Days rekindled the spirit of sportsmanship in the nursing community.
According to CON Student Body Organization (SBO) Governor John Lee Calderon, the PNSA Days was a relationship-building event with other student nurses and leaders.
“I think joining the activity helps us to connect more with other student leaders from different universities and student nurses. Since I’m the governor here (CON SBO), it has expanded my ability to exercise my leadership towards other schools. It helps me as an individual because it promotes camaraderie between student nurses along Bukidnon. It gives us ways to build more connection and friendship with them as we may be working together in the future,” Calderon said.
SBO adviser, Ms. Aubrey S. Edio, RN MAN, said the event highlighted the importance of holistic development for student nurses, emphasizing both academic and extracurricular achievements.
“The College of Nursing ensured the safety of the students. It is important to send the students to events like the PNSA because our nursing students are always busy academically. Most of the time, they have their duties and classes. PNSA Days is one of the activities that could help them have a mental health break and also have camaraderie with the other nursing schools in Bukidnon,” Edio said.
Over 605 students and almost 30 clinical instructors were sent to the event.
Other participating schools are Mountain View College, San Isidro College, and Central Mindanao University.
