‘The Earth Shook The Moment I Saw My Name On The List’, ‘Magpapaskong May Lisensya – PNLE Passers From BukSU

The earth literally shook the moment Vince Padre-e found his name on the roster of passers in the November 2023 Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination (PNLE).

In the late evening of December 2, the Professional Regulation Commission released the names of 25,761 individuals who passed the PNLE out of the 32,203 examinees. Coincidentally, this unfolded precisely when a massive magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the regions of Mindanao and Visayas.

“I was engulfed in anxiety while awaiting the announcement. When I finally spotted my name, the earth trembled beneath us. It was a very unique moment for me,” shared the 23-year-old Padre-e, who hails from Cabanglasan, Bukidnon.

In the aftermath of the seismic surprise, the anxieties that gripped the Bukidnon State University (BukSU) community were overshadowed by jubilation as the College of Nursing (CON) proudly ushered in six new nurses, boasting a 100% passing rate.

For years, BukSU CON has pioneered several practices ensuring students’ readiness for the PNLE. According to CON Dean Dr. Ma. Algerica T. Cuenco, the university imposes a thorough screening process for prospective students.

“From the commencement of enrollment, extensive screening processes have been in place, selecting candidates displaying high potential,” said Cuenco.

CON’s illustrious record of achieving 100% PNLE passing rates spans three consecutive years. Their commitment to excellence was further validated as they secured the No. 1 Top Performing Nursing School in the Philippines last May 2023.

Aside from academic excellence, Padre-e is also grateful for the values that the CON instilled in the students. These values are crucial in the actual nursing profession, honing them to be globally competitive nurses.

“We are instilled with the values of professionalism and respect for every individual,” said Padre-e. “As a nurse, it is essential to embody ethical principles.”

Another BukSU PNLE Passer, Jhomar Canuog, shared in a post on Facebook that after surpassing a nerve-wracking journey, he will celebrate Christmas bearing his license.

“After a roller coaster journey, we finally made it. The months of sleepless nights, hectic schedules, and overwhelming lectures were paid off and rewarded. Indeed, MAGPAPASKONG MAY LICENSYA,” he wrote on his Facebook timeline.

Canuog said, “As the youngest son, the pressure of being the family’s last card hits me differently. I know in the first place that my family never pressured me or dictates what they want for me but with all their efforts and sacrifices to provide me the things I need, it seems like I can’t afford to fail. That’s why I invested everything I have and everything I can to make sure I can have those two letter words right after my name this December. Because behind this victorious moment are the daily sacrifices of my family. And as a form of gratitude I give this early Christmas gift to them.”

Padre-e and Canuog belong to the CON’s class of 2023. They call their batch “Rephaiah”—a Biblical name that means “refreshment of the Lord.” After their graduation last June, Padre-e and Canuog faced the risk and pressure of taking the November PNLE with only four months of intensive review and preparations. The rest of their batchmates will take the exam in May next year.

“Grab every opportunity to learn, and respect everyone, especially your clinical instructors. Be proud of your school. To my batchmates who will soon take the exam, I urge you to double your efforts in your review. You still have enough time to study and prepare so that BukSU will once again attain a 100% passing rate,” advised Padre-e to his batchmates.

BukSU CON’s consistent success in achieving a 100% PNLE passing rate exemplifies their commitment to nurturing competent, compassionate, and highly skilled nursing professionals poised to make significant contributions to the healthcare sector. (Information Unit)
