BukSU pursues LUDIP completion with CHED supported CMU training

MALAYBALAY CITY (OP-IPS/25 January 2022) Bukidnon State University is moving ahead with the completion of the BukSU Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (BLUDIP) with its participation in a Commission on Higher Education-supported training organized by Central Mindanao University.

The university has been included among 10 partner state universities and colleges (SUCs) in Northern Mindanao in CMU’s Sustainable Land Use Development and Infrastructure Planning project (LUDIP). The training was described as capacity building in developing a context-based Comprehensive Land Use and Investment Plan in response to RA 11396. The law has required SUCs to prepare and implement a Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan, to include construction of dormitories for students and housing sites for employees.

As part of the project, BukSU’s Planning and Development Office welcomed a team from CMU headed by Dr. Jupiter V. Casas on January 4, 2022, for a reconnaissance meeting. It was held at the Audio-Visual Center.

Dr. Casas and the team of environmental planners and relevant experts from CMU laid down details of their observations of the strengths and weaknesses among BukSU’s data requirements for the LUDIP. They also offered ways forward for the two universities on the matter.

The CMU team provided invaluable inputs on the existing LUDIP data requirements of the university in the hope of guiding BukSU’s TWG in improving and gathering the much-needed data for the completion of BukSU’s LUDIP.

Members of BukSU’s Technical Working Group attended the meeting led by Mr. Dante S. Victoria, Jr., VPAPD, Ms. Vilma O. Lorca (outgoing Planning Officer), and Mr. Amber Paguray (incoming Planning Officer).

CMU has been a strong partner of BukSU in developing the university’s LUDIP even before the inception of the CHED-granted project.

In 2019, CMU assisted BukSU in the formulation of its Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP). BukSU was able to organize its TWG to work on the plan.

The following capability-building sessions and meetings were held: Orientation Workshop on BukSU’s CLUP with Integration of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change, CLUP TWG Sectoral Meetings, Seminar Workshop on Participatory Process in Planning the Allocation of Land Resources for the CLUP, CLUP Writeshop, CLUP Phase 2, and many others.

As of 2021, BukSU has completed its LUDIP Phase 1 and has achieved 65 percent of Phase 2 on the BLUDIP Structure and Content Task and Deliverables.  It has also initiated the integration of the 15 satellite campuses in the university’s LUDIP.

In the current engagement with CMU, the university joined the Program Orientation and Training Workshop on January 19 to 21, 2022.

With this, the partnership of the two universities has been officially sealed and put to action. (with reports from Ms. Ann Sheila C. Del Rosario/OVPAPD and Mr. John Mark O. Pisao/Planning and Development Office)
