‘Team work helped BukSU succeed in 2021’

MALAYBALAY CITY (OP-IPS/January 2022) Bukidnon State University President Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez cited team work as one of the key factors of the success of the university in 2021.

“Tungod sa hingpit nga pagtabang sa tanan (because of the unconditional help of everyone), inspite of the pandemic, nagmalampuson ang atong mga plano (our plans were achieved),” he said during the Year Ender episode of BukSU Updates, on December 29, 2021.

He said through the guidance of God and the consistent support of everyone, the university was able to hurdle the year’s  difficulties.

“Despite what seemed insurmountable challenges, we were still able to achieve our goals, he said in Cebuano in a pre-recorded interview with OP-IPS Focal Person Walter I. Balane aired on DXBU 104.5 FM.

Dr. Cabañelez thanked the members of the Board of Regents (BOR) for their support by approving the major plans of the university.

The BOR meeting on December 9, he said, was very successful. There is also plan to hold a special meeting in January to discuss the remaining plans for 2022.

According to him, the board has approved the procurement of projects and goods and services of the university in both the main and satellite campuses.

Dr. Cabañelez said that despite the decrease in budget, the university’s infrastructure projects and other endeavors have progressed this year.

He cited that work has begun in the reroofing of the College of Technology, the retrofitting of the Elementary Laboratory School Building, and the re-piping of the main campus’ water system.

He said the university has already requested help from the Local Government Units in the distribution of new equipment to the different satellite campuses.

The University President visited last week the satellite campuses in the south to check on the progress of the construction projects there.

He said the university also recognized in an awarding rite the contributions of the LGUs especially in the satellite campuses. The university, led by the Office of the Director for Satellite Campuses, recognized the LGU partners in a hybrid virtual and in campus awarding rites on December 7, 2021.

He also mentioned the participation of BukSU students in international and national conferences, including the faculty and personnel who presented their research outputs internationally.

One of the most important accomplishments of the university this year, he said, is being able to achieve rank 8th in Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination. Mr. Christ Jan D. Manlangit placed 8th in the November 2021 Nursing Board Examinations.

The College of Education and College of Business, he added, have a much higher passing percentage compared to the national passing percentage.

“I think everybody should be happy with it in spite of the various challenges that we’ve encountered,” he added.

Dr. Cabañelez also shared the significant awards that the university has gained such as the Search for Outstanding COVID-19 (SOVV) Volunteers in Northern Mindanao, Dangal ng Wika at Kultura 2021, and Civil Service Commission Region 10 Parangal at Pasasalamat Bronze Award during the 121st Anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service.

The president also cited the success of the faculty and non-teaching personnel associations’ Christmas party events and the fund raising and relief operations initiated by the university to help survivors of super typhoon Odette. The Call for Donations drive organized by BukSU National Service Training Program Unit drive raised around P17,000 for relief goods (see related story).

On his secret to success as an administrator, he said the blessings and provisions given by God made a huge impact and difference when it comes to managing the university’s activities.

“Sugdan gyud nato atong adlaw sa pag-ampo ug tapuson sa pag-ampo ug atong i-aninaw kung naglampuson ba ang mga plano anang adlawa (Begin and end our day with prayer and let us reflect if we achieved our plans today),” he said. (Diana Rose B. Lagoy/OP-Information and Publication Services)
