BukSU, international group forge partnership for education interns

MALAYBALAY CITY – Bukidnon State University forged a partnership with the Education for an Interdependent World (EDIW) as part of its internationalization initiatives.

EDIW is an international non-profit association whose mission is to empower young people in higher education to promote and foster initiatives that aim to build a more understanding and inclusive society in a multicultural and interdependent world.

BukSU and EDIW will do the Project Forth, a series of Lectures and Seminar-workshops for pre-service teachers of the College of Education (COE).

Ms. Julia Maria Gonzalez Ferreras, EDIW President and Dr. Emma T. Melgarejo, EDIW Asian Project Coordinator visited BukSU to formally sign the agreements for the partnership and to speak in BukSU’s International Lecture Series on February 24 to 25, 2020.

Ferreras gave a lecture on the “Formation of Teachers in Challenged Areas: Motivation, Meaning and Mission”.

Dr. Melgarejo, in her talk, said that the continuous formation of young people is indeed likened to the symbol of a “mustard seed” of unbelievable minuteness which grow to be a huge tree.

She said it is just like the simple ways of reaching out to the youth through partnerships which could potentially  grow to affect students’ broadened view of their crucial role as change agents of the community.

The guests were grateful for the warm welcome and commended BukSU for its internationalization initiatives.

Dr. Mercidita S. Villamayor, COE Dean, in her message, said the college is thankful that the partnership has been formalized through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Agreement between BukSU and EDIW. She cited that BukSU has received support from EDIW partners over the years through the conduct of insightful talks on the vocation and mission of teachers.

Present during the MOU and MOA signing were EDIW officials Ms. Ferreras and Dr. Melgarejo and representatives from BukSU, namely: Dr. Elle Christine D. Melendez, International Affairs (IA) Director, Dr. Villamayor, Ms. Rowena F. Egargo, COE- IA Coordinator together with some COE Faculty, BukSU Student Body Organization officers and other guests on February 24, 2020 at the BukSU Research Building.

COE fourth-year students from the Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Bachelor of Physical Education programs attended the lecture at the BukSU Audio-Visual Center on February 25, 2020.

Ms. Lora E. Añar, BukSU faculty, gave a brief history of the lecture series conducted in the university.

The BukSU Dance Troupe performed a cultural presentation during the program.  (Ms. Rowena F. Egargo, COE-IA Coordinator for OP-IPS)
