Secondary School Laboratory (SSL) is the Basic Education unit of Bukidnon State University on secondary education. It provides venue for learning experiences of field study students and student interns enrolled in Teacher Education. It also delivers quality basic education to learners and initiate teaching and learning innovation.
SSL prioritizes the attainment of learning outcomes for basic education based on established learning standards. It also aims to enhance competence of faculty in teaching basic education learners, in handling Pre-Service Teachers and in strengthening linkages with parents and other stakeholders.
A. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING FOR PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS
The Secondary School is a Laboratory for BSE and BPE students of the College of Education taking up Experiential Learning Courses. It accommodates the deployment of field study and pre-service teaching students.
B. CO-CURRICULAR ORGANIZATION
B.1. Student Council Membership – The High School Student Council shall have the power that emanates from the student body. It shall be an autonomous, unified, and the highest democratic representative of the student body.
B.2. Performing Arts
B.1.1. Dance Troupe – Dance Troupe is a performance group organized to help discover, enhance and showcase unique skills and talents of students in the field of dance in the different genre (Folk dance, Hip-hop and Contemporary).
B.1.2. Choral – The SSL Choral is a musical group that is open to all SSL students who are musically inclined. Its purpose is to cater the interest and passion of members in music.
B.1.3. Athletics – All students can participate in all sports events. The sports coordinator and advisers are responsible for the discipline, training and participation of the athletes.
C. GUIDANCE SERVICES
The BukSU-SSL guidance program is concerned with the welfare of the individual student. Over and above the school’s academic program, it directs and assists the individual student in his or her personal, interpersonal and intrapersonal relations. The following are the different services offered by the SSL Guidance Office.
C.1. Orientation services – An orientation is set for both parents and students, new and old and the pre-service teachers. This program includes general lectures on the different topics for the benefit of both and students and pre-service teachers.
C.2. Individual Inventory Service – This will organize record of each student containing pertinent information about his home and family, the learning styles, multiple intelligences checklist, & personality checklist. This service is useful insofar as it can assist the student in self-knowledge as well as self-realization.
C.3. Counselling Services – This is a service that will develop self-understanding among students through individual counselling, group counselling, and peer counselling.
C.4. Remedial and Enrichment Services – The guidance counselor may recommend enhancement activities to students who are optimistic in improving their academic performance.
C.5. Testing Services – The guidance office will facilitate the conduct of the national examinations and assessment. It takes charge in the conduct of SSL entrance examination for incoming students.
C.6. Services to Teachers and Parents – It is a service that provides relevant information to the teachers and parents regarding the students’ behavior and academic performance. This work helps identify students’ needs in the academic and non-academic areas.
C.7. Vocation and Career Guidance Services – This service gives counseling to the students particularly to their vocation and career path, aptitude and work interest. It helps students to choose the different tracks that Senior High School has offered. Also, if facilitates the entrance and scholarship examinations for college.
C.8. Student Support Services – The office initiates important activities like recollection, seminars, seminars, symposium, and trainings for the students’ total growth and development.
C.9. Follow-up & Monitoring Services – It provides never-ending services rendered to follow-up the students’ behavior and academic performances. It prepares a year-round monitoring process to assure the total progress and improvement of the students’ personality.

Extension Project: Computer Literacy Training of the Students of Mindanao Army Training Group (MATG), TRADOC, PA
Caption: College of Education and Secondary School Laboratory have been in partnership with Mindanao Army Training Group in pushing literacy in the digital skills of the army students. The most recent batch of training graduates were the students of Kibaritan Military Reservation, Kalilangan, Bukidnon who received their certificates of completion on the 7th of February, 2020 at the BukSU Amphitheater. It was attended by the extensionists of the College of Education and the extension heads of the university. The graduation was proclaimed by none other than the president himself, Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez.
