Historical Background of BS Math Program
A Brief History of the Mathematics Department
In the early years of Bukidnon State University, the conversion from Bukidnon Normal School to Bukidnon State College (BSC) opened opportunities to offer more courses other than teacher education course. In 1976, Bukidnon State College was honored by Presidential Decree 944 to offer courses such as Bachelor of Arts (AB along with the creation of three schools namely School of Arts and Sciences, School of Education and the School of Business Administration and Information Technology. The curricular offerings included AB in Mathematics along with the other majors such as English, Literature, Economics, Sociology, Physics and Chemistry. The first batch of graduates of AB-Mathematics was in the year 1987. There were eight (8) graduates from the said program.
Bukidnon State College had a fulfilling experience in the history when all programs were accredited Level I status by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) INC in 1995. In addition, after two years the AB-Mathematics was converted to Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (BS-Mathematics) with the approval of the Board of Trustees in 1997. There were three (3) graduates for the first batch of BS-Mathematics in 1999. The BS-Mathematics program has been producing graduates up to present time.
The faculty members of the Mathematics Department are engaged not only in instruction but also in research, extension and publication. Some members of the faculty have presented their researches in local, regional, national and international conferences.
BS Math Program objectives
To provide the student with a curriculum that represents the breadth and depth of mathematics, from classical to contemporary, from theoretical to applied. The curriculum shall enhance the student’s mathematical and critical thinking skills, and develops in the student a greater appreciation and understanding of the importance of mathematics in history and in the modern world.
To prepare the student for advanced studies in mathematics, applied mathematics or related fields. To prepare student who plans to pursue a career in the academe.
To prepare student for jobs or research work that require analytical-thinking skills.
To develop the social awareness of the students by involving them in extension activities.
To provide the students a learning experiences that develop their creativity, desirable attitudes and personal discipline; molding them to be morally upright individual.

Key Accomplishments:
Research outputs of the faculty were published nationally or internationally.
The faculty of the Mathematics Department are involved in a university wide, college wide and Math department wide extension projects. The Mathematics Department, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), has four (4) ongoing Extension Projects, namely: 1) Enhancement of Mathematical Content Knowledge, Teaching Strategies and ICT Integration in Teaching Mathematics; 2) Alternative Learning Assessments for Mathematics; 3) Instructional Materials Development; and 4) Writing Action Research. These projects are under the extension program of the University entitled “Continuing Professional Development through Extension Services (CPDES)”.
