MALAYBALAY CITY (IPS) Working in accreditation is a worthwhile endeavor, said third-ager AACCUP accreditor from Surigao State College of Technology Dr. Jhane R. Jabonero. In a brief interview on June 18, 2019 – day two of the first survey visit of the Level 1 accreditation process of eight Bukidnon State University programs, she shared about why she is still into it.
“Like bench marking, It’s worthwhile to be with intellectual people. It’s still part of my professional growth,” said Dr. Jabonero, one of the 19-member survey team from the Accrediting Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACCUP) in town from June 17 to 21, 2019.
AACCUP Accreditation team Leader Dr. Riceli C. Mendoza described her as “retired but not tired” during the opening program.
This remarkable senior citizen has more to her sleeve than being one of the distinguished accreditors. She is also, Lt. Col. Jabonero of the Philippine Air Force Reserve Unit. She went through rigorous training and examination to get the post and a year to comply requirements. Now she is a Reserved Officer Training Corps (ROTC) speaker and a visiting professor for the Philippine National Police in Caraga region.
She spent a total of 41 years in service until her mandatory retirement, as Associate Professor 5, in January this year.
The former dean of SSCT programs and standards said she still goes to accreditation visits for health and mental reasons.
“I don’t want to be stagnant,” she said, adding she learned a lot from other universities, which she applied to her college and vice versa.

Garcia (USM), Prof. Venus D. Namoc (JRMSU), Dr. Alvin O. Cayogyog (ASSCAT), Dr. Rozette E. Mercado (SdSSU), Dr. Ricardo Danilo E. Corteza (WMSU), Dr. Mario M. Bello Jr. (USM), Prof. Henry C. Daut (MSU-Marawi), Dr. Shyla O. Moreno (SdSSU) and Prof. Virginia E. Mordeno (ASSCAT).
Dr. Mendoza introduced the accreditors as “ready to be of service all in the name of excellence, standard and quality.” She said this batch of accreditors were brave, competent and veterans in accreditation.
According to its website, AACCUP’s main function is the accreditation of curricular programs in Philippine state universities and colleges.
Its mission is to make the attainment of quality in education an integral part of the higher education systems more particularly among chartered state colleges and universities in the Philippines, through a sustained program of internal and external assessment.
