B.S. Entertainment and Multimedia Computing, BukSU’s newest course offering

MALAYBALAY CITY (20 April) Bukidnon State University announces the opening of a new information technology course starting June 2018.

The Information Technology Department, under the BukSU College of Arts and Sciences, is offering Bachelor of Science in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (BSEMC),  with two specializations, Game Development and Digital Animation Technology, said Mr. Sales G. Aribe Jr, IT department chair.

The BSEMC program, he added, aims to address the need to be responsive to the current trends of the country and the global world, particularly in the fields of Multimedia and Entertainment.

The BSEMC program has integrated input given by stakeholders ranging from the academe to the industry obtained during consultations. The university also based the new course on existing policies, standards and guidelines prescribed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The BukSU board of regents approved the new course’s curriculum and offering during the 174th BOR Meeting in December 2017.

Mr. Aribe said according to the CHED Memorandum Order No. 02, S 14, Entertainment and Multimedia Computing is the study and use of concepts, principles, and techniques of computing in the design and development of multimedia products and solutions, and includes various applications such as in science, entertainment, education, simulations and advertising.

The IT Department, he added, has aimed to develop and promote high quality standards in offering the Bachelor of Science in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (BSEMC). The new curriculum contains provisions that cultivate the culture of excellence in offering an EMC program in order to produce competent graduates that would cater to the needs of the Game Development and Digital Animation industries.

The first specialization in BukSU’s program, Game Development, focuses on the study and application of fundamental and advanced theories in game design, scientific simulations, use and development of gaming technology and tools, and production of commercially acceptable digital games and viable solutions for use in entertainment and scientific applications.

He cited that graduates who specialized on game development may be employed as lead game programmer/ developer / tools developer, associate technical director, game designer, associate game quality assurance specialist, senior interactive software developer, associate game producer, senior game sound engineer, graphics programmer and associate business development specialist for entertainment and multimedia industries.

Digital Animation, on the other hand, specializes on the study and application of fundamental and advanced theories and advanced techniques in 2D and 3D animation, use and development for advancement of animation technologies, and production of commercially acceptable content and viable solutions for different platforms such as broadcast, web and mobile cast.

Career options for those who specialize on this include: creative programmer, technical animator, creative content developer, ad builders, technical director for modeling / rigging, animation quality assurance specialist, technical director for game art, digital 2D or 3D animation, content producer, digital 2D or 3D production designer and associate business development specialist for entertainment and multimedia industries.

Mr. Aribe assured that the program enables students to be knowledgeable on the whole pipeline of game development and digital animation projects.

The students, he added, will acquire the independence and creative competencies to articulate project design and requirements of new projects, not necessarily based on standard templates.(With a report from John Dale S.
