BukSU offers BS Envi Science, BS Biology starting August 2020

MALAYBALAY CITY (07 July 2020) Bukidnon State University announced the offering of its two new courses under the Natural Sciences Department (NSD) of the College of Arts and Sciences starting August 2020.

Starting the first semester of Academic Year 2020 to 2021, BukSU now offers BS in Environmental Science Major in Environmental Heritage Studies and BS in Biology Major in Biotechnology.

Dr. Lynette A. Ejem, NSD chairperson said BukSU offered the two courses because they are identified by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as “Priority Courses”.

The university, envisions itself as a premier institution of innovative and ethical leaders for sustainable development.

She said these courses are highly attractive for students who are science and environment enthusiasts.

“The Environmental Science area of specialization is first ever in Mindanao, making it unique from other higher education institutions offering this course,” she added.

Dr. Ejem said the new courses are timely, addressing the rapid strides in biological sciences, which has potential for impact on humanity and key environmental changes including the role of heritage in conservation.

In a statement, the department said studying these issues is in one way or another essential for achieving sustainable development.

“(This is) especially true on mitigating health and environmental risks while helping enhance economic opportunities both in the local and national scales.

The curricula of the two new programs are based on CHED minimum policies and standards and its areas of concentration.

Aside from the General Education and Institutional courses, the BS Biology program is composed of Biology tool courses, Fundamental Courses, Specialization and Elective courses, Undergraduate Thesis and Practicum. The BS Environmental Science is composed of Core Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies and Management, Environmental Impact Assessment and Undergraduate Thesis.
