MALAYBALAY CITY (IPS) The eight units under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and International Affairs (OVPREIA) conducted the cascading of policies and procedures of the university three-fold functions and support functions, on June 24-25, 2019 at the University Auditorium.

Spearheaded by Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, the Vice President for Research, Extension and International Affairs, the activity sought to strengthen the engagement of the faculty in research, extension and production, in adherence to the VMGO and targets of the university.

Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez, in his remarks in the opening program, reiterated the need for the faculty to be oriented with university policies in view of upcoming quality assurance activities.

Dr. Beverly A. Bicar, BukSU Research Director, in her presentation of the rationale, said the cascading activity was an offshoot of the OVPREIA Environmental Scanning held on January 22 and 28 where the stakeholders noted a need to intensify the information dissemination of the three functions. The other function is instruction.

The two-day activity was an important step to address the needs of the faculty, a majority of which are early career teachers.  The event also ensures that the university remains responsive to the requirements of various accrediting and regulatory bodies.

On the first day, the directors and heads of the eight OVPREIA units shared their respective policies, procedures and processes.

The presenters were Dr. Bicar for the Research Unit (RU); Dr. Marlon S. Frias for the University Statistical Center (USC), Dr. Mirasol for the International Affairs (IA) Unit, Dr. Adelda A. Cunanan and Dr. Lesley Lubos for the Extension Unit (EU), Dr. Zita I. Dales for the Instructional Materials Development Center (IMDC), Ms. Melody C. Ravelo for the Gender and Development (GAD) Unit, Ms. Loreta Sol L. Dinlayan for the Bukidnon Studies Center (BSC) and Engr. Theogenes T. Gayon for DXBU.

The second day was allotted for the cascading of processes of the newly-created Research Ethics Committee (REC) headed Dr. Carina Joane V. Barroso, as well as the other REC members, Dr. Dales, Mr. Christian J. Inovejas, Pastor Daniel Asuncion, Atty. Adriano Bahian Jr, and REC Alternate Members Ms. Ma. Algerica Cuenco, Ms. Dinlayan and Ms. Ravelo.
Almost all, 333 of the BukSU Faculty Members, attended the cascading events. They listened to the input of the different OVPREIA units and gave constructive feedback on the policies and procedures.

Also in attendance were Dr. Estela C. Itaas, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Ms. Rosanna S. Generato, the Supervising Administrative Officer of the Human Resource Development Unit and Ms. Wilma Gregory, Finance Management Officer.

Aside from the input of the different units, the OVPREIA also introduced the Kahoot Quiz and Radio Broadcasting as learning strategies for instruction.

Dr. Mirasol said it is the first time that a forum to cascade the policies and procedures of the eight units working on the three-fold functions was organized.
ʺOver-all, she added, the activity successfully provided a learning environment for the faculty to positively support and realize the research, extension and production mandate of the universityʺ.  (Ms. Joanne Vivien S. Belderol/OVPREIA Faculty Associate for OP-Information and Publication Service)
