MALAYBALAY CITY (IPS) Bukidnon State University (BukSU) is set to shift the opening of its first semester classes in August after the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has pronounced its recommendation last month.
BukSU President Dr. Oscar B. Cabanelez announced the move to the BukSU community last week in university functions.
Prior to his pronouncement, Dr. Cabañelez conducted consultation with internal stakeholders to prepare for the shift.
He said the plan will be subject to formal approval by the Board of Regents in its June 2019 regular meeting.
The President said so far there is no more major hindrance for the university to synchronize with the rest, especially with the Free Education program of the government.
CHED announced that all State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), as well as Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs), are enjoined to synchronize its respective Academic Year (AY) to a Fiscal Year (FY).
CHED issued a memorandum dated April 5, 2019, signed by CHED Chair J. Prospero de Vera III, informing CHED regional office directors and heads of SUCs and LUCs about the shift of academic calendar.
The shift is pursuant to RA 7722 or “Higher Education Act of 1994” and CEB Resolution No. 142-2019.
De Vera explained that the commission made the decision for the shift for easier implementation of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act under the cash-based budgeting system.
According to the BukSU Office of the Registrar on May 6, 2019, enrollment for the first semester is tentatively scheduled on July 22 to August 2. First Semester classes are scheduled to start on August 5, 2019. Midterm examination schedules are set on September 27 to October 4. Final Examinations are tentatively set on November 29 to December 6, 2019. (Walter I. Balane/OP-Information and Publication Service)
