College of Education conducts CPE training

MALAYBALAY CITY (Information and Publication Service) The Bukidnon State University (BukSU) College of Education (COE) has recently been awarded a P1.2 million Continuing Professional Education (CPE) grant after going through rigid assessment by the Commission on Higher Education, (CHED).

The grant is part of the K to 12 Transition Program, which allows BukSU-COE to conduct a five-day live-in CPE training entitled, “Enhancing the Capability of the College of Education Faculty in Teaching the New Teacher Education Curriculum”.

Organizers said the training was aimed at providing teachers with information and updates relevant to the New Teacher Education Program as well as content knowledge on foundation courses in the revised curriculum.

Luminaries in teacher education graced the training, which was held at the Loiza’s Pavilion on October 14 to 19, 2018. Dr. Purita Bilbao of the West Visayas State University (WVSU) gave the keynote speech. Prof. Bilbao also chairs the CHED Technical Panel for Teacher Education (TPTE) and member CHED technical working group for ICT education. Dr. Bilbao is also president of State Universities and Colleges Teacher Education Association (SUCTEA).

Another speaker was Dr. Edizon A. Fermin, co-chair of the CHED-TPTE and Director for Innovation Development of Miriam College – Henry Sy Sr. Innovation Center.  Dr. Evelina M. Vicencio, former dean of the University of the East College of Education (UE-COE) also spoke during the training. Dr. Marilyn U. Balagtas, Dean of the Flexible Learning and e-PNU (C-FLEX) of Philippine Normal University (PNU) also spoke in the training. Prof.  Ditas L. Ligue, extension coordinator, of the West Visayas State University also joined the panel of speakers.

Dr. Neonita D. Danao, Dr. Sol Simbulan, Dr. Vivian P. Alberto and Dr. Zita I. Dales also reinforced the training as consultants and facilitators. Representatives from the CHED-10 monitoring team also attended the training.

All BukSU-COE faculty members from elementary to college attended the training. As part of the grant, five representatives from Xavier University (XU), Central Mindanao University (CMU), Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) were also invited to attend the training for free.
