MALAYBALAY CITY (Information and Publication Service)  Auditors from the Anglo Japanese American (AJA) Registrars, Inc. have recommended Bukidnon State University for ISO 9001-2015 certification after a two-day audit.

Ms. Ma. Lourdes Mercolita, lead auditor of the three-member AJA team, revealed this before university officials and personnel during the closing rites of the recertification audit on August 17 at the BukSU Audio-Visual Center.

BukSU obtained no major non-conformity among its major processes reviewed by the auditors from top management down to sampling audit they did with major academic and administrative processes. The audit included support services such as procurement and human resource.

Mercolita, who said there are no perfect universities, identified 14 observations and three minor non-conformities that the university can work on before the next audit.

She said no documented answer is required for the observations. She however noted that the university should consider the observations, adding some of which are bordering on minor non-conformities.

Two of the observations touched on gathering of feedback information and the control of electronic documents.

Mercolita identified three minor non-conformities (NC), including one on corrective action and occurrence of non-conformities.

For the NCs, she said the university is required to submit a documented answer within 30 days after the recertification audit.  AJA auditors will verify the responses in the next audit.

She noted that BukSU would be recommended for ISO 9001-2015 version upon approval of the responses to the Corrective Action Requests (CAR).

University president Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez, in his response, thanked the auditors and said BukSU gave its best.

ʺI am relieved – as president. Everybody tried hard and they were very serious in their responsibilities, ʺ he added.

But he noted that BukSUʾs ISO certification journey did not come easy.

ʺIt was rough. We need to double our efforts and give the best of ourselves,ʺ he added.

Dr. Cabañelez expressed his ʺwhole commitment to go on with the ISO journey because of the support of the universityʾs faculty and staff. ʺ

He said every recommendation and suggestion given to BukSU serves as an improvement.

Mr. Dante S. Victoria Jr, Vice President for Administration, Planning and Development, called on the personnel to celebrate with a well-deserved weekend after several sleepless nights. He thanked everyone from top management to the utility workers of the university.

But he noted that in the coming weeks, BukSU will sincerely address the observations and non-conformities.

Ms. Rosanna S. Generato told IPS it was crucial that the university did not obtain any major non-conformity.

The Anglo Japanese American (AJA) Registrars have assessed and registered against the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 standards the Quality Management Systems of Bukidnon State University in August 30, 2017. BukSU obtained its Certificate No. AJA-17-0082 after a series of audits since 2016.

The university intended to submit its quality management systems again for the next level of certification – the ISO 9001: 2015.

The ISO 9001 certification process works to ensure organizations like higher education institutions (HEIs) to continuously provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

In 2006, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo issued Executive Order 605 institutionalizing the structure, mechanisms and standards to implement the government quality management program. State universities and colleges were enjoined to establish ISO-Quality Management Systems and be certified.  (Walter I. Balane/Information and Publication Service)
